Two
nationals, a man and a woman in their 30s, were arrested for illegally filming
Jeju Naval Base on Jeju Island, South Korea, with a drone at around 5pm on Aug 19.
At the time, a security guard discovered a drone flying over the naval base, and the Navy immediately initiated security and protection measures for the base.
Later, police and the Navy apprehended the two individuals operating the drone near the base. They reportedly told police, "We didn't know it was illegal."
The individuals were found to be
nationals who entered the country without a visa. Police are currently verifying the exact time of their entry into the country through the Immigration Office.
Jeju Provincial Police Agency are now investigating the two
nationals on charges of violating the Military Base and Military Facility Protection Act.
"We will analyze the footage stored on their mobile phones and the drone's memory card to determine the circumstances surrounding their filming of the naval base before deciding whether to detain them or process them accordingly."
