Summary

An adjustable action base for 1/144 scale Gunpla and similar models. This stand is compatible with the standard 3mm peg connection found on most modern Bandai HG kits as well as Kotobukiya's Frame Arms and others. Other adapters are coming soon!

Arms hold their position with geared connections and printed retainers, no extra hardware necessary. You will need a small length of 3mm-diameter plastic rod, which can easily be cut from the model runners.

Post-Printing

Step 1: Parts

Print these parts:

  • one base plate (I used the "hex" option)
  • one base hinge
  • one or more arm segments (I have two here, 30 and 50 mm long)
  • one peg adapter piece (I used the 22.5-degree angled version)
  • one retaining ring per hinge (with my two-segment version, I'll need three rings).

You will also need a short (~1 inch / 25 mm) length of scrap runner, 3mm in diameter.

Step 2: Base plate assembly

Slide the base hinge into place on the base plate. Lock it in place with the length of runner, and trim off and save the excess length.

Step 3: Adapter assembly

Insert the remaining length of runner into the peg adapter, and trim so that about 1 cm remains.

Step 4: Assemble the arms

To assemble the rest of the base, slide the geared hole of each segment onto the corresponding peg and secure with one of the retaining rings. Note that the position is locked once the ring is in place - to change the angle, you will have to disassemble and reassemble that hinge.

Step 5: Put your model on there!

Your stand is ready for display!

Posing note: Because of how the hinges fit together, if you want the stand peg to be perfectly vertical, you should use an odd number of arm segments. Using an even number of segments will give you an offset of 11.25 degrees for more dynamic poses.
