Last night, the Gonzo's Pinball Flipperama YouTube channel released a fantastic interview with Bug from Spooky Pinball. The hour-long conversation is definitely worth a listen. They touched upon a number of very interesting topics, including details on Spooky's next pinball machine - which is scheduled to be released later this year.

Bug said that Spooky's next game is a standard body pinball machine that has three flippers, pop bumpers and a topper that is even cooler than the topper that they made for Evil Dead...which is arguably one of the best toppers ever made.

While this was not mentioned during the broadcast, Spooky's next game is strongly rumored to be based upon the 1988 Tim Burton film Beetlejuice. Spooky Pinball's exclusive artist, Christopher Franchi, even created a translite for a hypothetical Beetlejuice game several years ago (see below).

During the interview, Bug stated that Spooky Pinball as an astonishing five pinball machines currently in various states of being created. He said that they are big themes that thousands of people have requested. Beetlejuice is likely one of them. The rumors about another, the 1984 film Gremlins, are strong as well. Beyond that my crystal ball gets a little cloudy. If I had to guess, I'd say that Spooky probably has the license for the 1985 film The Goonies but I don't know that for a fact. And I have no idea what the other two themes might be.

Bug stated that Spooky has a really cool new official mod coming for Evil Dead soon and that it can also be used in other games.

UPDATE: Spooky just revealed that mod. It is a super cool Shotgun shooter handle that launches balls in the game. It’s made from walnut wood and real metal. Priced at $449, it is compatible with all Spooky Pinball machines.

Looney Tunes and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are still on the production line. They are Limited to 888 units each, but they have not sold out. If they do eventually sell out, Bug said that Spooky would create official upgraded toppers for both games.

Look for Spooky's next pinball machine to be revealed in November with Production beginning in late December or early January.

There has been some discussion lately about what is happening with the included toppers for Dutch Pinball Exclusive's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. DPX supposedly was not thrilled with its original topper supplier and it was looking to switch manufacturers. Some games have been shipping without the topper, which will be sent at a later date.

DPX provided a brief update on the situation this weekend. Their original topper supplier is restarting production and toppers are slowly coming into the factory piece by piece. They are still working with the new topper supplier, but their first prototype units were not up to Dutch Pinball Exclusive's standards and are being reworked. They hope to be able to ship a batch of toppers to the United States with their next shipment of Alice machines, which is targeted for September.

The other day, the owner of an Australian arcade bar names Empire Alternacade & Events reached out to me to share some pictures of one of the rarest pinball machines on the Planet. It's one of those games that you always hear rumors about but never actually see. There purportedly was only two of this machine made. It's called "Aaron Spelling" lol.

The pinball machine was commissioned by the second wife of the television and film producer as a gift for him. She approached Data East Pinball and supposedly offered them a million dollars to create her a custom pinball machine. At that time, Data East was in the middle of manufacturing its 1992 game Lethal Weapon 3 so they didn't have time to create a game from scratch. They based the Aaron Spelling pin on the LW3 layout with custom art, code, plastics and callouts. The playfield features a target with the face of Aaron's daughter Tori Spelling that says "I love you daddy" when hit.

Below are video and pictures of this rare machine that somehow made its way all the way to Australia.
