Saying goodbye to our Meshnet feature

We launched Meshnet in 2022 with the idea to bring our users a secure way to connect multiple devices into a single network to share files, engage in gaming, or work on joint projects. We built it as an extension of our mission to provide safer access to the internet. However, after careful consideration, we’ve made the decision to retire the Meshnet feature, and we want to be upfront about why we’re making this change and what your next steps could be.

Farewell to Meshnet

What is happening with Meshnet?

Starting December 1, 2025, Meshnet will be fully shut down. This change means that all functionality associated with it, like device linking, traffic routing through other devices, and personal mesh networks, will be removed. Your NordVPN service will continue to work as usual — this change only affects Meshnet.

If you’re currently using Meshnet, now’s a good time to prepare and plan ahead so you don’t run into issues afterward. Start looking into alternative solutions for the virtual network setups you’ve configured using our apps.

If you’ve been using Meshnet for secure file sharing, we highly recommend switching to NordLocker. For other Meshnet features, several mesh networking solutions are available on the market that may fit your needs.

What caused the change?

When we built Meshnet, our goal was to give users more control over their connections and networks. By offering it as a free add-on to NordVPN’s core service, we hoped it would become a valuable part of your online experience. But sometimes even good ideas don’t reach a wide enough audience.

As time went on, it became clear that while a small group of dedicated users valued Meshnet, it never really caught on the way we’d hoped. It had a clear purpose but didn’t resonate with the NordVPN community.

Our mission is to provide the most secure and enjoyable internet experience possible. Sometimes, that means making hard decisions. Supporting and developing Meshnet required significant ongoing resources. Redirecting those resources will allow us to focus on improving what the majority of our users rely on every day — faster speeds, stronger security, and smarter VPN features.

We want you to know that we did not take this decision lightly. We explored several alternative approaches to reworking Meshnet, but none were viable.

Thank you

To everyone who tried Meshnet, shared feedback, or helped us build and refine it — thank you. While Meshnet is coming to an end, we remain committed to delivering security tools that bring real value to our users.

Online security starts with a click.
