I f***ing hate working

Tips/Suggestions

My options are go to work every day, most of the day, for the rest of my life, or...die? That's it?

I hate this. Hate hate hate.

Keep trying to find another job, an easier one maybe...there's just one problem though, they're still jObS.

I've done nothing but make horrible career decision to horrible career decision. I'm honestly not in a bad spot by most metrics if I just switch companies. But oh my god. I hate this so much. Advance in my career? Bro why? I do not give a rat's nest about my career. Career sucks.

Partially just venting I guess, but if y'all got any pro tips for coping with this BS I'm open to it. I don't know how I'm gonna keep doing this. And yes I'm currently crashing off my meds until it gets refilled.

Right there with you. In my mid-40s and am over this bullshit.

Same. What do you do for work?

It reminds me of the ancient proverb, “Work sucks. I know.”

“Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.”" -George Carlin

Congrats you’ve made me feel ancient

I LOVE working, I HATE HATE HATE CAPITALISM. It's the forced work till you die because some pick is making money off my LABOR that truly is killing me

Wake up early. Go to work. Hopefully eat enough throughout the day, but work longer if you take a break. Get off at some point. Plot twist, you're both working cause obviously, so someone has to make dinner. Bonus, something like a flooded apartment or broken car disrupted your week! Likely about 3 things at once. So hopefully you have time to make food, do chores, and take care of all that nonsense, and whatever you don't do will pile up!!! And god FORBID you spend an hour or two to yourself, let alone a DAY

Wanna get out? Well you either gotta buckle down and do nothing but WORK MORE or WORK AND GO TO SCHOOL (somehow???) (AND PAY FOR IT) and be a real go getter! Gotta climb the ladder! And guess what? When you do climb the ladder, you still get to KEEP WORKING

Hate all the office politics, dealing with traffic on the way to and from the office, problematic people, gossiping about other people (and knowing they gossip about you too)

A lot those of us who are ADHD end up being self-employed / having our own company. It’s not a pass for less work (it’s actually far more work for often the same or less pay).

However, it does mean you can decide the times you work. You can take days off (assuming it’s possible) when you just need a mental break. You can go for a walk in the middle of the day (though, this may mean working more in the evening).

I can’t tell you what will work for you. For me, my wife and I have been wedding photographers together for the past ~20 years and it’s been great. No bosses, in the moment when shooting (good for adhd, at least for mjne), though the editing takes time to get used to (and it can still be like pulling teeth some days). Though, note, I’m unmedicated adhd, but it’s also not too too severe for me (or I’m just very good at masking).

Just wanted to let you know - there are other options than just working 9-5. It will take money to get started. It will take a good understanding of running a business. It will take a good understanding of marketing, customer service, etc. And, it will only be as successful as you make it.

That said, it can also be a real joy. It can be relaxing. It can be something that may fit your lifestyle better. And, if you’re smart about it, it may lead to you building up wealth for yourself (earn more than you spend, and invest what you don’t spend into total stock market index funds).

Hope this helps. Cheers

I do agree that self employment is often easier for people with ADHD, but unfortunately, for every person that finds success in it, there are 5 others who dont. My own dad has accumululated 200k in debt over the years and is about to retire with it (It will be me who has to carry that debt then), and my friends dad retired with 0 money in his pockets and no retirement plan. He is just living in my friends apartment now, prbly for the rest of his life, and my friend has to carry the financial burden of it for the next 10 years or so. Both of them have ADHD and poured their heart and soul into their companies. Self employment is not a miracle cure for ADHD, and can mess with both your life and your childrens life. Both me and my friend would have been better off had our dads just worked a normal 9 to 5. I basically never got to spend time with my dad because he was working 24 7 and still didnt make money off of it.

I stock shelves at a big box store. Sometimes it’s fine sometimes it sucks. But once I get off I can resume my normal life and that’s what I really look forward to. Reading, scrolling the internet, watching shows, cooking. It ain’t much but it’s something. Make the most out of the little things

I could have written this myself. I think this is a very common thought process in most millennials and younger now. It’s a bleak outlook too when you realize we won’t even have anything to retire with so all of this is just barely surviving to keep the elites profitable until we die. And that’s exactly the plan they have and throw in some fun population control events and you have become a very jaded version of yourself that you hate.

I took the extreme step and got pregnant at 35 and became a stay at home mom barely scraping by on hubby’s salary BUT raising my kid is a lot more satisfying than working for the man. I don’t recommend this tactic for everyone lol lol

But I digress. Totally understand your point 100% my friend.

Yep it sucks. I’m an attorney and I feel like I’m buried alive, unable to crawl out from the tasks piling up, emails, phone calls, deadlines, appointments, meetings. It’s just too much.

I work as a nurse and only do 5 night shifts per fortnight. It’s great.

My wife's a nurse. I also worked swing schedules at a plant for a while. It was chill

I've considered radiology. I'd rather do engineering but that's more of a pipe dream at this point. Hospital schedules and monotonous environment seems way more my speed.

I went from working in an office with a good salary, to being a ski instructor with a low salary. I’m much happier now! Eventually I plan to work independently and be my own boss. If you have something that you really love, try to make that a career.

I feel the same. I think the most infuriating part is that there's no good reason for us to be living this way. Society could function nicely with us all just working a few hours a week on things that actually matter.
