Official Statement from the Chief of Police
I want to sincerely apologize for any embarrassment or distress caused by a recent post made by our department regarding a hit-and-run incident. I take full responsibility for the content that was shared and the impact it may have had on those involved or in our community. We are very sorry.
After reviewing the situation, I have determined that we were overzealous in handling this situation. Your criticisms and concerns are valid. We were wrong. I have made changes to our department’s social media posting policy so this does not happen again. I have contacted the driver of the car in question and apologized to her for the embarrassment we caused her and her family as a result of the post.
We value our relationship with the community and remain committed to building trust through transparency, fairness, and accountability.
Thank you for your continued support.
Chief Scott Heagney
