Question How to see "Recorder information" on a DVD-R(W) on Linux?

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
The "Disc Info" page of Nero DiscSpeed on Windows has a "recorder information" field that shows which drive type a DVD-R or DVD-RW was recorded with.

Is there anything that can show this on Linux?

One way is to look at the output of the dmesg command:

dmesg | grep -E -i 'cdrom|dvd|cd/rw|writer'

My one computer has a similar drive...
Code:
[ 1.979438] ata2.00: ATAPI: TSSTcorp DVD+/-RW TS-H653J, D100, max UDMA/100

[ 2.079391] sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] scsi3-mmc drive: 48x/48x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray

You can try cd-info. Some of the data might be filled out under CD Analysis Report. This info isn't always included.
Code:
cd-info

I was referring to the Recorder Identification Code (RID).

The answer here shows this sg_raw command:

Code:
sg_raw -r 32k <device> ad 00 00 00 00 00 00 0c 7f ff
For me, it returns:

Code:
NVMe Result=0x2
No data received
Optical drives have no NVMe, so not sure why it says that.
