UPDATE: So I wrote this post and James Laurenceson the Director of ACRI tried to get me fired by ANU.
I hold an unpaid fellowship at ANU from my work training cyber forces in Ukraine and studying the future of warfare.
While I was at the front he was trying to get me fired.

TLDR: China is state funding speech in Australia.
I've published repeatedly about how important it is to disclose funding from authoritarian countries like Russia and China.
Here's a great example of a report my team did on law firms and their ties to China while working on defense projects.

So I'm not just picking on ACRI at UTS but its a really bad case of non-disclosure.
They take money from the PRC, write articles for the media and even run courses on how Chinese Australians vote, while being funded by a dictatorship.

For the past several months, ACRI has been emailing ANU to try and get them to take my fellowship away. I don't really care, its great to work with ANU and be recognized as an expert but I'd rather speak the truth than get prizes.

I didn't know about this campaign to get me fired until I returned to Australia from Ukraine where my team does vital work learning lessons that will save Australian lives and doing our bit to train Ukrainian veterans in cyber skills.

However, instead of taking the criticism about ACRI never disclosing its funding to readers and the Government and changing their behavior, they tried to retaliate against me with covert emails to try and get ANU to terminate my fellowship.
I want Australia to have a better debate about these issues, we can't handle them behind closed doors where PRC money and institutions can bully people. I'm just a tourist in academia but I worry about who else is getting silenced.
I've seen many examples of bullying where critics of China like @Professor Anne-Marie Brady FRSNZ, @Drew Pavlou 🇦🇺🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼, @Andrew J Phelan or Clive Hamilton have faced these sorts of back ally whisper campaigns to silence them. I've been bombed thousands of times by Russia emails don't scare me.
