Description
Hi. I personally admire and feel strongly about the initiative you are proposing. That being said, I found the lack of any code and only an existence of a markdown file (the specification) a bit suspicious. So I ran it against 3 AI generated text detectors. And 2/3 of they say, 95%-99% of the spec is AI generated (see proofs below). I have nothing against AI generated code, but 99% AI generated is just... bruh! Was the intention to start the initiation for a better internet regardless of the actual viability of the details of the said new internet/protocol? Like I am all for that, but I think it would do no harm if you actually mention that fact in the README.

99% AI generated text on a so complicated project is crazy

I was in an AMA with K0 and when I asked him more specific questions about how betanet would prevent someone from just blocking packets with ECH and then denying packets with SNIs of known betanet nodes, he paused for a long while and literally fed his own documentation into ChatGPT on stream and then used that as the answer. I'm not entirely convinced this isn't a vibe specification.
ChatGPT of course gave a complete non-answer about ECH not being a part of the spec, which I already know and was not at all the subject of my question.

Don't worry bro! It's not like this project entrusts anything important about security to an LLM that hallucinates up to 40% of the time. And let's definitely not forget that this is absolutely not a political project. The fact that it was started entirely based on political motivations holds no bearing whatsoever on the project. ๐ฏ
In honor of the visionary genius who created this masterpiece, I've had Claude whip up a delightful little security report about this spec. Cheers! ๐

@windows-fryer in the AMA I attended, K0 was very persistent about keeping the project free of ANY political bias. I don't think the project has any monetary or political motivations.

Oh, 100%. What could possibly go wrong with outsourcing security to a model that sometimes thinks 2+2=5 if the training data was weird? It's a bold, innovative strategy. A masterstroke, even. The fact that it's built on a foundation of pure, unbiased, and completely apolitical goals is just the cherry on top. ๐ค
I was so moved by this genius that I prompted Gemini for its profound insights on the matter. The results are, as expected, flawless. โจ

the sentences punctuated with emojis are just top notch.

I think they should just try to vibe code it and see what happens ๐๐ฅ๐
infradragon commentedon Aug 12, 2025
I'm tempted to vibe code a server library, you could fake it pretty easily by just reorganizing the source code of v2ray or a similar project and making it look like it's betanet. There are no other libraries for betanet in existence to compare against it, and I don't think K0 would be able to tell the difference.

Oof.. treating tech specs as something that can be generated is fundamentally misguided. While not conclusive proof, that is disappointing that it's highly probable. An abstract system design I could understand and forgive, but this will fall apart within the week probably if there was never any technical substance. Worse than that, maybe [for some] further eroding the trust we have for strangers.
Kornelf4 commentedon Aug 12, 2025
The AI generated spec, code and pull request is straight proof for the main dev has no idea what he is doing, nor the "hard-working" devs (respect for the exception). A project like this requires real experience (and more).
cppcooper commentedon Aug 12, 2025
Well, maybe we can hope the attention has a few experts stewing on some novel ideas. Perhaps we'll see a useful PR to improve the spec. Or maybe the observable facts will have them walk off into the sunset disappointed. Time will tell.

This project smells like a complete crap. Not only the specs is possibly AI written, but it's also produced in an extremely rough and approximative manner, with many errors and unknowns, lack of data and research.
Anyone that has ever read any paper specification for protocols (see blockchain protocols or SCION papers) or innovative ideas, knows this is just written like bs.
I suggest the author to come back with a properly written paper before launching an idea.

Exactly

This is totally AI generated lol
