The planet is not just having a hot year. We have pumped so much greenhouse gas into the air that we are locking in extreme heat for the long term. Heat domes are getting stronger and lasting longer. This is not a random cycle. It is the result of our choices and our refusal to act fast enough.
If people keep shrugging it off we are going to see heat waves that make this year look like a warm spring day. Crops will fail more often. Power grids will collapse more often. Cities will become too dangerous to live in for weeks at a time. You cannot air condition your way out of this forever.
Every year we delay cutting emissions is another year we guarantee hotter and deadlier summers for decades ahead. This is physics. It is not political. We either deal with it now or we keep cooking.
