Kim Davis is the walking reminder of why religion has no business dictating law in a free country. She is not a martyr. She is not a defender of liberty. She is a government official who decided her personal beliefs mattered more than the Constitution she swore to uphold. And now, years later, she is still trying to weaponize her faith to strip millions of Americans of rights the Supreme Court has already ruled are protected under the 14th Amendment.
The organization backing her, Liberty Counsel, is not fighting for freedom. They are fighting for control. They are pouring money and influence into the courts to turn religious doctrine into public policy, forcing the rest of us to live under rules we never agreed to. This is not about protecting their own ability to worship. No one is stopping them from practicing their faith. This is about giving themselves the power to decide who gets full citizenship and who does not.
Religion, in its personal and private form, can be a source of comfort. But in the hands of people like Kim Davis and the extremists who bankroll her, it becomes a blunt instrument used to subjugate and punish those who do not conform. That is not freedom. That is not morality. That is oppression with a Bible verse slapped on top. And it will not be tolerated any longer. The rights of every American are not up for negotiation in someone else’s church.
