In this article, weโ€™ll explain the key terms used in Hanafuda and guide you through the gameplay.

About Hanafuda

Hanafuda is an application designed to connect you with the world envisioned by the Hana Network. By depositing major cryptocurrencies like ETH and USDC, you can earn points and Hanafuda cards, which you can then use to play. You can also create your own team (Garden) and invite others to join, increasing your chances to earn even more points and Hanafuda cards.

Letโ€™s dive in and get started with Hanafuda!

Creating and setting up your account

1. Creating a Hana account

Enter invitaion code

Sign up using Google, then enter an invitation code (a six-character alphanumeric code).

Existing users can generate invitation codes. Get an invitation code from someone whoโ€™s already part of the community, possibly through social media.

  • There is no limit to the number of people you can invite with a single code.
  • Existing users can only generate an invitation code if they have made at least one deposit.

2. Setting up your profile

Setting up your profile

After logging in, click on the user icon displayed in the header to make the following changes:

  • Change icon: You can upload any image (PNG, JPEG, JPG, up to 2MB).
  • Change username: You can use only alphanumeric characters and underscores. If the username is already in use, youโ€™ll need to choose another one.

These settings are visible to others when viewing leaderboards or team members, so make sure to choose an icon and username you like!

Youโ€™re now ready to start playing Hanafuda. The next step is to make a deposit. Letโ€™s go over how to do that.

Making a deposit

To play Hanafuda, you need to deposit supported cryptocurrencies. Letโ€™s walk through the process.

First, letโ€™s review the supported blockchains and tokens for Hanafuda.

Ethereum

Base

Arbitrum

Now, letโ€™s proceed with making a deposit.

1. Connecting your wallet

First, click on โ€œConnect Walletโ€ to link your wallet to Hanafuda.

Make sure your wallet address appears above the button โ€” it confirms the connection.

your wallet address appears

2. Linking your wallet address to your hana account (if not already linked)

Youโ€™ll need to link your wallet address to your Hana Account. This is a one-time process, and once itโ€™s done, you wonโ€™t need to repeat it.

Click โ€œSet up your Hana account,โ€ sign the request in your wallet, and your Hana Account will be linked. Afterward, your linked address will appear below the Hana Account.

Always use this linked address for deposits. Trying to deposit from a different address will trigger a warning.

Press enter or click to view image in full size
your linked address will appear

Note: If you need to change the linked address, you can disconnect it. However, deposits made directly to the smart contract without using the UI wonโ€™t be supported by Hanafuda.

3. Making a deposit

Choose the blockchain and token, specify the amount you wish to deposit, and click the โ€˜Depositโ€™ button.

The deposit button wonโ€™t appear until youโ€™ve completed the previous steps.

In Hanafuda, your deposit score is based on the number of transactions rather than the amount of each deposit. The minimum deposit amount varies by token.

For example:

  • ETH: 1 wei (=10^-18)
  • USDC: 10^-6
  • WBTC: 10^-8

Deposits have no fee.

For ERC20 tokens, you must approve the transaction first. If the โ€œApproveโ€ button appears, complete that process before depositing. ETH deposits donโ€™t require approval.

Please note that direct deposits to the smart contract, outside of the UI, may take longer to reflect on your deposit score.

You can check your deposits on the Dashboard

Withdrawals will be available starting early Q1 2025.

After depositing, invite your friends to Hanafuda to grow your Garden.

Garden

A Garden is essentially your team, and any users you invite will become part of your Garden.

These invited users can also create their own Gardens. However, only the users who joined using your invitation code will belong to your Garden.

Creating a Garden means that the deposit counts from all its members, including your own, are combined and used to calculate your Garden Rewards. The more users you invite and add to your Garden, the easier it becomes to earn Garden Rewards. For more details, please refer to the Garden Rewards section.

Additionally, with the Grow feature, a portion of the points earned by users you invited will be added to your total as well. Check out the Grow section for more information.

Keep in mind that inviting users alone wonโ€™t earn you rewards.

you can copy your invitation code

Click the โ€œInviteโ€ button on the dashboard to copy your invitation code to the clipboard.

Note: The Invite button will only be active if you have made at least one deposit.

Next, letโ€™s dive into Grow and Garden Rewards, the main features of playing Hanafuda.

Grow

Grow is like a roulette or gacha game. You can earn between 100 to 1,000 points randomly each time you play.

Relationship between deposit count and grow attempts

The maximum number of Grow attempts depends on your deposit count. Hereโ€™s how it works:

The relationship between deposit count and grow attempts

Boosting Grow

When you make 5,001 or more Deposits, a Boost will be applied to the Grow Value you acquire. The relationship between the number of Deposits and the Boost multiplier is as follows:

The relationship between deposit counts and Boost rate

For Example:

  • Deposit Counts: 10,000
  • Acquired Points: 500
  • You get 2,500(= 500 * 5) Points

Every Hour, the number of deposits is checked, and the maximum number of Grow attempts is updated accordingly.

For example, if you have made 5 deposits, you would receive 20 Grow attempts. If you use all 20 attempts, reducing your remaining Grow attempts to 0, your count will reset to 20 the next Grow replenishment timing, as long as your total deposits remain at 5. If you have 10 Grow attempts left by the next Grow replenishment timing, they will simply be replenished to 20; they wonโ€™t add up to make 30 Grow attempts.

1-Click Grow

1-Click Grow, which allows the remaining number of Grow executions to be consumed at once, is available; the Point result from Grow is increased by the number of executions consumed.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

For Example:

  • Acquired Points: 500
  • Number of Grow consumed: 20
  • You get 10,000 (= 500 * 20) Points

Grow garden member bonus

When a Garden member youโ€™ve invited performs a Grow, a portion of the points they earn will also be awarded to you as their inviter.

  • If User A, whom you invited, earns points, 16% of those points will be given to you.
  • If User A invites User B, and User B earns points, 8% of those points will be awarded to you.

For example:

Alice invites Bob, and Bob invites Jack. In this scenario:

  1. If Alice earns 100 points โ†’ Alice: +100 points, Bob: +0 points, Jack: +0 points
  2. If Bob earns 100 points โ†’ Alice: +16 points, Bob: +100 points, Jack: +0 points
  3. If Jack earns 100 points โ†’ Alice: +8 points, Bob: +16 points, Jack: +100 points

This is how points are distributed accordingly.

You can draw Hanafuda

Garden Rewards are the key to earning Hanafuda cards. You can use one Garden Reward to obtain one Hanafuda card.

Hanafuda is a traditional Japanese card game featuring vividly illustrated cards depicting animals, plants, and other elements. Players collect these cards to form specific hands and compete for points. For more details on the Hanafuda cards and hands, please refer to the Hanafuda Collections section.

Garden Rewards are awarded based on the total number of deposits made by your entire Garden.

While Grow is based on your individual deposit count, Garden Rewards are calculated based on the combined deposit counts of both you and the users you have invited to your Garden.

1.Regular Rewards

You earn 1 Garden Reward for every 5 deposits made.

2.Milestone Rewards

When you reach specific deposit milestones, you earn bonus Garden Rewards as shown in the table below.

Milestone Rewards

For example:

If your Gardenโ€™s total deposit count reaches 50:

  • Regular Rewards: 50 / 5 = +10
  • Milestone Rewards: +3
  • Total: +13 Garden Rewards

Note on garden rewards timing

The calculation and update of Garden Rewards based on your Gardenโ€™s deposit count happen every 1 minutes. So, there might be situations where your personal deposit count increases, but the Gardenโ€™s deposit count hasnโ€™t updated yet.

Letโ€™s take a closer look at the Hanafuda cards and the hands you can create using your Garden Rewards.

Hanafuda collections

Hanafuda cards are divided into four types for each of the 12 months, with each type appearing across four different seasons, resulting in a total of 192 unique cards.

12 months * 4 types * 4 seasons = 192 cards

Note: The seasonal variation is a unique feature of Hanafuda within the Hana Network.

Share bonus

You can share and earn points

Creating a Garden gives you an advantage in the game, and the key is to share the excitement of Hanafuda and invite new members. To encourage sharing, we offer bonus points as an incentive.

Whenever the Share button appears during the following moments, click it to post on X (formerly Twitter) and share the fun of Hanafuda to earn 50 bonus points:

a. When you earn points through a Grow action
b. When you create a hand by revealing Hanafuda cards

You can earn the Share bonus once every 24 hours. After claiming the bonus points, thereโ€™s a 24-hour cooldown period during which you wonโ€™t be able to earn additional bonus points by posting on X (formerly Twitter).

Each of these actions (a and b) has its own separate cooldown period, so you can still earn a Share bonus for completing a hand even if youโ€™ve already claimed a bonus for a Grow.

Curious about how your points compare to others? Check out the leaderboard!

Leaderboard

The leaderboard displays the top 100 users ranked by their points. In the case of a tie, the user who made the most recent deposit is ranked higher. Users who joined through a special initial invitation code and have no inviter are labeled as โ€œHANA-OG.โ€ If you donโ€™t rank in the top 100, your status will be shown as โ€˜Out of Rankโ€™ (โ€˜-โ€™).
