our culture and influence is so heavy like, aave, music, fashion, art, all of that is from us yet it is stolen and bastardized and made profit by non black people who see black art as nothing more than a tool for capitalism while discarding the black folk who made it.
so much REAL black history in America is purposely suppressed and hidden so that the people in power can keep black Americans oppressed and uneducated because we are smart and powerful people. it fucking sucks and I woke up and got radicalized after seeing this cycle repeat.
Discord strangers getting increasingly triggered as I explain to them that black people invented heavy metal lol
This happens in the UK as well, particularly to African and Caribbean culture.
Yup, I'm in the UK and it is a problem. Oh and you know Afro-Beats? Yeah there's K-Afrobeats now 🫤. I AM NOT LYING. There is like one Korean artist who did the research and gave credit where it's due but the majority of them don't do that. Sickening
legitimately the only American culture I can think of that doesn't directly stem from black American culture is all of the racism baked into the country's DNA. That and imperialism, exceptionalism, and a constant victim complex perpetuated by christian nationalists.
I'm still astounded at how white people were like, "Wow, nice religion you got there, love how it criticizes the Roman Empire and our draconian laws. We're going to just go ahead and take that and use it to justify us Romans (and other Europeans) acting like the earth is our property. kthxbai"
Black American culture gets constantly appropriated because America has no culture without us. Everyone of European heritage relinquished their culture to make the homogeneous concept of Whiteness, which only exists to reinforce our oppression. They take to make it feel like they have culture
White people culture sucks, which makes calling it “no culture” dangerous; it should never be considered the default. Unseasoned hamburger on pizza is white, but I sure HOPE it’s not default.
I don't mean it as default, I mean it literally: as void of any tangible connections to a larger community. White folks will know their heritage to the percent but have no connection with it. The memes around white people (bad food, can't dance, etc) are things that would develop through culture
I am waiting for the resurgence of the Western with racially accurate representation of Black and Mexican people being the primary force in that era.
The music, the culture and stories were never those of the white man.
They just made Bass Reeves into the Lone Ranger and called it a day.
Genuinely don't think there has been a race more cheated out of their culture more than black people.
That's how I feel about kpop. I saw a snippet of the kpop demon hunters and cringed bcuz its so black American influenced. Yet they're so prejudiced against you guys (I'm black but not from the US). It's disgusting.
I found out the other day that the guy who played the original Amen Break, Gregory Coleman, died homeless and unacknowledged, despite the fact that that drum loop is in *literally everything*
Hell world
YES!!! Most of the silly trendy tik tok dances originated from Black creators. I know music gets stolen a lot. Hip Hop culture and aesthetic as a whole. Hairstyles absolutely get stolen. Slang and modern vernacular.
And the thing is: Black creators ALWAYS do it better. Always.
The entire art form of music if it wasn’t for black Americans
Every time some clown talks about the influence of elvis and the beatles on music at large I lock them in an unskippable cutscene
Unfortunately that's just how it is and some people really hate when we point it out.
