Germany never suffered collective punishment. An enormous number of known war criminals were integrated into the new West German government and received huge pensions and legal protections their entire lives. Nuremburg killed less than 0.01% of the people responsible for Nazi activity. Famous Nazi generals became famous NATO generals and wrote glowing memoirs shifting the blame from themselves to a tiny number of SS officers who were already dead and couldn't defend themselves.
