I kept this to myself for a bit but recently found out through my sister that I have some DNA tracing back to west Africa, mainly Cameroon and a big percentage from Nigeria I'm a lil disconnected from those cultures unfortunately because black diaspora, but it's nice to know a lil bit of my roots

Same. Mines spread all over west Africa but mainly Nigeria. I talk to my other black friends a lot about how i love being black but i just feel sad over the loss of my culture and envy others for theirs. Not that black culture doesn’t exist but yeah
Its just that wish of having deep cultural holidays and traditions. Like watching kids do Baile Folklórico makes me wish i had something like that
when I first started reconnecting with my culture the first thing I tried was through cooking. it helped me feel a little closer to my roots and also just made me a better cook tbh
Same!! My mother did a DNA test awhile back that revealed a pretty big percentage of Nigerian heritage. The disconnection is totally felt though 😓
Yo sick! I found out im a bit yaqui mexican 🤙
Oh yeah, it's great to know your ancestry. But it does suck to feel the disconnection.
I feel that, years ago my sister did some hunting through our family tree wanting to know where we actually came from who we were, most of the leads dried up thanks to the civil war and chaos therein records destroyed scattered lost or forgotten but one actually went somewhere,
I forget the specifics but they were seemingly anglo Saxon farmers that came over pre revolutionary war, the wild thing we found where they were buried, it’s kinda neat
It is nice to know for real! 💛
I’m glad you discovered a bit of your history
