- Available w/o reservationsEndedLive Music【schedule change】【Burkina Faso】Sababou Kadi Keikoa concert by our band (6 musicians and a dancer). We are a band called SABABOU KADI KEIKO, formed in 2020. The band originally comprised three Bwaba griots and one Japanese person living in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Since then, we have added two more members and now have line-up of six. Griots are a widespread family groups in West Africa who have passed down arts and weaving traditions through the generations. Originally, they served the chiefs of each tribe, performing songs and playing musical instruments on various occasions. Rather than going to school, griot children grow up listening to the performances of their grandfathers, fathers and uncles from an early age, learning a wide repertoire and mastering a variety of musical instruments. However, the situation of griots is changing rapidly. Chiefly, this is due to chiefs converting to Islam or Christianity leaving their original belief, as well as to school education becoming more widespread. Consequently, griots are increasingly sending their children to school. The historical existence of griots overlaps with that of "Gakke" of gagaku musicians and "Iemoto" of Noh and Kabuki schools. In any case, these 3+1 musicians, from different backgrounds, have spent five years learning each other's music. It all started with a personal encounter. While we have 'eaten from the same pot', we have sometimes clashed for various reasons. But everytime we found a way of making up and have performed together on various stages in Burkina Faso and have come a long way. The songs we will play include a hymn to Ibrahim Traoré, the world youngest president of Burkina Faso; a song about the feelings of a friend who has been separated from his mother since fleeing the Republic of Congo in protest against the dictatorship; and a lament about modern society, where you need a certificate for everything.Pop-Up Stage Inner EastDate and time05/08/2025 19:00~20:00
