after being aware of it for a few years but never actually watching it, I decided to try watching azumanga daioh and i must admit that the 4cuck oldfags were right, it is kino. i was initially quite dissuaded from watching it because of all the xittertrannies and normgroids who recently picked up the show and started flaunting their admiration for it at every possible turn, thoughbeit im unemployed and have nothing to do all day so i decided that i may as well at least try watching it to pass the time. now that ive finished it, i I can confidently say that out of the 15ish slice of life anime I've watched in my life, im quite sure azumanga is the best of all of them. unlike almost every shonen anime ive ever watched where i felt like i had to grit my teeth and force myself to watch it, i found myself actively rationing out the episodes of azumanga instead of just rushing through them to get through to the end as quickly as possible because i wanted to savour and really engage with every moment of the show. for only 26 episodes I was honestly surprised with how much attachment I could build to these characters and how much i could grow to like them, even if i didnt care for them initially. I think this sentiment is most exemplified with chiyo, who i hated at the beginning of the show for her high pitched voice and over the top demeanor which i found to be incredibly grating thoughever by the time the graduation scene rolled around i had built a genuine appreciation for her character, and i felt that i could almost relate to her because of how sombre it was to see all of the characters move on with their lives and for the show to conclude, but i knew that it was necessary. if azumanga was some thrembillion episode long goyslop gag show like the simpsons or family guy then it wouldnt have the quality or temporal nature that made it special in the first place.

It's sort of hard to put my finger on it, but azumanga feels very different to almost every slice of life anime ive ever heard of or seen before despite being seemingly quite generic in concept. one significant thing it accomplished that not many anime, or really tv shows in general have ever done for me was actually making me feel melancholic, thoughbeit simultaneously happy in a way. seeing all these fictional anime foids having purer and more true friendships in a total 9 hours of runtime than i have in my entire life was in part brutal, yes, but the fact thatPost too long. The concept of "slice of life" as most people think of it – that is: an anime about a group of girls doing ordinary things and there being no overarching plot – was established by Azumanga. It did not exist prior to Azumanga. The "slice of life" animes made after Azumanga were made because of Azumanga and made in order to attempt to be the new Azumanga due to how successful Azumanga was (if Azumanga had been an abysmal financial failure then things would've been very different). They in one way or another used Azumanga as a template and formula, copying various ideas and things like character types and the setting and the themes of certain episodes. Some are extremely blatant and lazy imitations of Azumanga (like Lucky Star), and some tried to be more original but still wouldn't exist without Azumanga and despite having some originality still have things copied from Azumanga (take as an example Minami-ke made in 2007: its character named Chiaki is based on Chiyo; it's the "much younger but much smarter/wiser girl" type of character established by Azumanga's Chiyo, and there's something special about her hair that they focus on sometimes like Chiyo has her pigtails that get played with, and her name even begins with "Chi", and she serves the same kind of function or role as Chiyo does - and its character Kana is rather Tomo-like, and there's an episode involving alcohol like Azumanga's with Nyamo getting drunk, and there are other things they copied as well). And they're all trash. They're trash precisely because they were made to be the new Azumanga, made as imitations, copying and borrowing from Azumanga, and they're trash also because they're newer; they're newer so they're not as well made (anime in general made in the last 22-20 years, in the new anime era, is made with way less effort and care – in every way; in terms of animation and story writing and character writing – than anime earlier was, in the previous era that spanned from the mid 1980s until about 2003 - of course early 80s and 70s anime were also made with great care but that's another era; only comparing here the current era vs the previous one) – they're made sloppily, and since they're sloppily made in conjunction with being made from the ground up for the commercial purpose of being "moe" thePost too long. If you don't use the common definition of "slice of life" established by Azumanga that includes the inane moeslop made after it and instead think of "slice of life" in the broader "daily life" manner, then probably the best non-Azumanga "slice of life" anime is Heidi made in 1974. But of course it's starkly different from Azumanga, but it's indeed "slice of life" technically (in the broader sense). So in other words the only other "slice of life" anime than Azumanga worth watching is Heidi, but keep in mind it's not the same type of SOL. Every episode has its own plot, much more so than most Azumanga-style SOL animes do, so it might not even feel like SOL at all.

All anime is, to some extent, tranime. "manime" is for all intents and purposes dead, but even if it was still around, it would still be shit. The reason is because all manga during the 1990's shifted towards "shoujo", because these started outselling everything else, this is why you see pedo/fag shit in "seinen" like berserk, because miura was a FAG a changed his art to cater to the nu-audience. The same happened to jojo's bizarre adventures, or really any modern "manime" you can think of. Perfect example is Blue Lock, because on paper it has all the tropes of shounen and shit like Ashita no joe o algo, but in reality it is FAGGY, because it has to appeal to the gookbug nu-audience of fujos and feminized boys, and thus adopts the shoujo easthetic and homoerotic undertones.

Because its a post-modern medium it has to be self-referential. A western example of similar levels of cancer is the MCU. Without watching the dark knight, spooderman or reading gayass comics these movies would just seem like total fucking nonsense. They're so far up their own ass the cliches become a substitute for logic. The city hates spiderman because this is a standard superhero plot point and we need a third-act low point. If you're not familiar with the cliche beforehand it makes no sense, and anime is the same postmodern ouroboros, it NEEDS to self-refer. Why? Because this is what sells, and that cliche doesnt, so put in this this and that and leave out this this and that and thats how anime is made. Paint by numbers.

This resulted in all anime being the same, and all anime appealing to a feminized audience, therefore all anime is tranime, even seinen.

I read a lot of it back when it was pretty new (it was ongoing, but maaany chapters already existed).

Thought after some time "this is a fucking waste of time" and stopped reading. If I recall correctly the point where I stopped reading was a few chapters after they'd been to the huge pyramid-like thing (whatever that was, some large structure partially buried underground). I remember that I felt like I'd been deceived into wasting my time, because the story wasn't going anywhere interesting and simultaneously it felt like it was deceptively written (intentionally so) to give the impression that it was building up to something; like something cool/epic was about to come around the corner (basically "2moreweeks"-ery, over and over again), like the story was finally about to start for real THIS TIME – and it was like that over and over again. And nothing ever actually happened; the stuff that "came around the corner" after one had given the story its "two more weeks" or its "one more chapter" was always mediocre/bland/uninteresting.

How do you not understand something so fundamental?? Just how new are you to anime? That's the basics of watching anime. How it's been for over 20 years now (ever since we stopped needing to buy VHS tapes). And now we've got such super high speed internet and so much drive space that we can download anime in exceptionally high quality (there's much less need now for compressing to small 200mb-300mb filesizes per ep) and even download lossless remuxes of DVDs and BDs, so nowadays it's EVEN MORE illogical to buy anime. I bet you're 13-16 years old or something like that, and a phonetoddler who lacks a PC to play high quality video on.

Buy a BD:
>you're limited to some sһitty stock subtitles that look boring and might have lots of errors in them or have weird/awkward translation quirks, and which don't contain cool and useful translations of text details shown in the anime (stuff translated other than dialogue)
>you're limited to whatever audio track they chose to include, which usually isn't the best one
>you're limited to the video quality of that particular BD release; other BDs might look better (sometimes the BD is worse-looking than an older DVD release and the BD is just an upsize of the DVD with sharpening applied resulting in lots of ringing artifacts and/or there's been smoothing applied that crushes details)
>takes longer time to play, you have to insert a physical disc; the whole playback experience is more cumbersome and slower

The English (Signs / Songs) was created for this scene, and as the Japanese track was only released in Japan, no retail English subtitle was released, but fortunately, thanks to @Judgement, the fansub of this is perfect, which was edited by @wham. (This track also includes the Japanese Ending song "Tōku Made" lyrics at the ending, Enjoy!) So, both were added. The Greek subtitle was by dimxr@HDB, the Romanian subtitle was by @NoOne, the Swedish subtitle was by @KungFredda, & the Italian subtitle was by GigiBestema@HDB.

I watched a few episodes of "Azumanga", and it was the most cringeworthy slop I've ever seen, I can't believe there are grown people who stomach this, well, that's assuming I'm talking to a grown person, and not an underage toddler, though I don't know what's worse, that or a mentally stunted manchild pedophile enjoying a cartoon made for literal children.

Garbage. Stops being interesting after only a few episodes and then descends into "flashback within a flashback" hell, at which point one has already watched too much. All the "ooooo this seems like it could be epic, wonder where this is going" feeling one gets from the first episode or two quickly disappears; it starts off strong, hyping itself up like that, tries hard to give an impression in the viewer that this story is going to be something mega epic and unique, then rapidly crashes itself into a muddy ditch (full of stinky turds) from which it never gets out of and ultimately dies in. This "fall" (from a good start) is similar to how I Am A Hero starts off and unfolds, except Titan's fall into mediocreness and disappointment is arguably even worse than Hero's. Both have terrible endings (in different ways, sure, but both are really bad).
