Heat-pump take-up requires a big retrofit grant rethink, says Chadwicks boss

CEO Patrick Atkinson is calling for easier and wider access to SEAI grants – and far greater flexibility in what they cover

The Government’s retrofitting programme is in real danger of failing – with the State ending up having to pay massive EU climate-target fines – if big changes are not implemented to encourage homeowners to avail of the grants, says Patrick Atkinson, CEO of builder providers and DIY specialists Chadwicks.

He has called for easier and increased access to the grants made available by the SEAI by allowing more flexibility to use hybrid heat-pump technology and to allow grants be paid to householders who carry out simpler work themselves.
