‼️ the CCP regime attempted to silence a former Hong Kong district councilor by arresting and questioning her family members‼️ Carmen Lau (劉珈汶), a former politician who fled her native Hong Kong five years ago and one of 19 activists on whom Hong Kong Police has issued warrants with a HK$1 million bounty each, joined 3,000 others at a rally in Feb against Beijing’s plans to build a mega-embassy near Tower Bridge in London. In a speech during the rally, Lau argued that allowing Beijing to build such a large embassy sends out the 'wrong message' that Britain welcomes authoritarian regimes. Within 48 hours her elderly aunt and uncle in Hong Kong were arrested in dawn raids on their homes by the city’s national security police and taken into custody, where they were questioned about Lau for six hours (hongkongfp.com/2025/02/11/wan). The development came after leaflets were posted through the letterboxes of Lau's neighbours in Berkshire, purporting to be from Hong Kong police. They offered HK$1 million (almost £100,000) for information about Lau or to anyone who could lure her inside the current Chinese embassy in Marylebone, central London. Lau’s relatives were questioned about the links Lau still has to the former British colony. Hong Kong Police want to know about financial relationships Lau has with others in Hong Kong, and are interested in her family tree — the other relatives she has in Hong Kong. Although her two relatives were released, Lau believes the police used information they gleaned to arrest another aunt a week later and question her for hours as well (hongkongfp.com/2025/02/17/hon). Lau was a former district councillor in Hong Kong who fled the region and sought refuge in Britain after the Chinese authorities put her under surveillance for being a democracy advocate. Hong Kong Police issued a round of arrest warrants together with a bounty of HK$1 million on her and five others last December (hongkongfp.com/2024/12/24/bre). telegraph.co.uk/world-news/202 dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1
