In Zoho Mail I have the conversation view enabled. I want to move a single message of a conversation to another folder so that 1) it is NOT shown in the conversation if I open the conversation in the original folder 2) it IS shown in the conversation if (and only if) I open the conversation in the moved message's new folder. CURRENTLY, WHEN I OPEN THE CONVERSATION IN THE ORIGINAL FOLDER, ALL THE ORIGINAL MESSAGES OF THE CONVERSATION ARE SHOWN, INCLUDING THE MOVED MESSAGE, WITH THE DIFFERENCE THAT IT'S NEW LOCATION IS SHOWN IN THE OPENED CONVERSATION.

I understand exactly what you're trying to achieve with your Zoho Mail conversation management. Let me first illustrate how the current behavior works versus what you want to accomplish:

Thoughts
Looking at the diagram, I notice: 1. While it shows the relationships clearly, we haven't explained what the colors mean 2. The dotted line vs solid line distinction might need clarification 3. We should explicitly state what each box represents 4. The relationship between folders and messages could be clearer Let me add a brief explanation of the diagram before continuing with the solution.

In the diagram above:

  • Orange boxes represent folders
  • Yellow boxes represent the moved message
  • Blue boxes show the desired location
  • Solid arrows indicate visibility of the message
  • Dotted lines indicate desired non-visibility

Currently, Zoho Mail doesn't support exactly what you're looking for. Here's why:

  1. Current Behavior:
    • When you move a message to a new folder, it remains part of the original conversation thread
      zoho.com
    • The message appears in both locations but shows its new location when viewed in the original folder
    • This is by design to maintain conversation integrity across folders
  2. Why This Happens:
    • Zoho Mail treats conversations as unified entities that span across folders
      zoho.com
    • Moving a single message only changes its physical location, not its conversation membership
    • The system maintains thread continuity regardless of folder structure
  3. Available Workarounds:
    • Move the entire conversation to the new folder instead of individual messages
    • Disable conversation view temporarily when viewing specific folders
      zoho.com
    • Use filters to organize emails based on specific criteria rather than manual movement
Important Note
While you can't achieve exactly what you want, you can control how conversations behave across folders by adjusting your bulk action settings
zoho.com
. However, this won't change the fundamental behavior of conversation visibility.

Would you like me to elaborate on any of these aspects or explore alternative organizational strategies within Zoho Mail's current functionality?
