As I’ve been thinking of what I’ve been eating lately, this has been on the back burner as a great way to integrate more sides to my dishes I’ve been making.
Kale, marinated/grilled tempeh, cherry tomatoes, pinto beans/onions/garlic mash, grilled chili corn, sunflower seeds, and coriander/lime/agave dressing.
The summer Sun is setting sooner, school is in session while I practice what I’ve learned, moving forward through new steps, seeing what I’ve invested and what I’ve earned.

Throwback Thursday. This is a sketch when I used to do one line drawings while attending the College of Visual Arts (CVA) in St. Paul exploring what it meant to be an illustrator. My sketchbooks at the time were a mixture of collage, poetry, research, but most upfront a recording device. If you know me well, akin to 4-track cassette tracking. I probably drew this on a break from working at one of the co-ops I’ve been employed at over the years. Circa 2002-2003 possibly? I can say I was more open then, and miss having that unabashed optimism to life/future. Reminding me the present can be just as good.

Something a little more restrained from what I’ve been working on lately but reminds me of how to turn something that seems like it is reductive or secondary into something else. It’s the slow burners that keep me interested in doing sketch work that equates in spades at a future date. Turn the ordinary into something beautiful - something like that. I’ve always thought of seeing if someone would stitch/embroider/tattoo something like this. That’s why I still draw; to connect with the tactile in real time and remain in the moment when I am able.
