Saronic Technologies has been demonstrating its Corsair unmanned surface vehicle (USV) at the Navy League Sea-Air-Space 2025 exhibition in National Harbor, Maryland, held from 7 to 9 April. Unveiled in October the 24 ft Corsair is Saronic's largest platform, designed for oceangoing missions with a range of 1,000 km with a 1,000 lb payload, Rob Lehman, co-founder and chief commercial officer for Saronic, said during a demonstration on 8 April.
The short demonstration showed off Saronic's user interface (UI) during two simulated missions. The first was a waypoint mission. The UI enables two different speed settings, one for economy and one for cruise. The Corsair performed the mission using the cruise setting.
Saronic highlighted the ability to monitor the cameras on the vessel during the mission, including toggling between the electro-optical and infrared systems. The forward-looking infrared (FLIR) system can be operated manually, enabling the user to look around.
The company also demonstrated a search mission, creating a polygonal search area. Patterns can be created to optimise the search area, according to the company. The Corsair uses its passive perception capabilities to find anything within the search zone.
Saronic vehicles are communications system-agnostic and can accommodate line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight systems. The Corsair was outfitted with Starlink and 5G Iridium links for the demonstration, the company said. Users can toggle between the different communication systems that are equipped.
