The organizer of Tokyo International Choir Competition removed Taiwan's flag on July 26 — the second day of the 3-day event held at the Dai-ichi Seimei Hall in Tokyo — and changed the name under which Taiwanese teams competed to “Chinese Taipei” after a complaint from
China; in the end they removed the flags of all competing nations on Sun July 27 to address protests — from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Chiu Yi-ying (邱議瑩), who accompanied Taiwan's choirs, as well as Keiji Furuya (古屋圭司) Chairman of the Japan-ROC Diet Members' Consultative Council who is also a member of the Japanese House of Representatives — over the moves.
