i don't understand man... especially when you say that shit around black people. it's loser shit.
i hate feeling scared to express my discomfort around this shit too cuz I'm always terrified to be told I'm too "sensitive" or whatever but like. it's a fucking slur that you cannot reclaim no matter WHAT. i don't care if you "have black friends" they're probably uncomf too.
I feel this way about the r word too honestly. For the time being people are gonna keep screaming slurs as loud as they can until they get bored. Cause bigots love to make sure minorities are never too comfortable. They’ll either die out on their own or bigots will just invent new words to scream.
It’s literally so easy to not say the word, idk why racist assholes act like it’s so difficult. Removing a word from your vocabulary, especially one that isn’t needed is literally easy as fuck.
Some people defend that shit like it’s water it’s actually absurd
I heard it plenty of times growing up, spoken in earnest by whites in northern Arkansas. It was so gross and creepy. I think that soured me on ever using it.
I'm guessing that people who have only heard others joke about it don't get the full effect. 😔
Honestly with my experience with the kind of people who do is it weird to say its an attention thing? My family actively gets AMUSED if you try and get them to stop, and will think of doing anything else than listening because it’s more fun for them they like the attention and views being rude gives
im black and i dont even say it 💀 (mostly how I was raised) so idk how tf its taking these people an arm and a leg to NOT say it when they don't even have the right to reclaim it to begin with
It’s been the past 12 years, everyone who is hateful has been slithering out of their hate holes. Like, and it’s a much bigger concentration than initially expected so it’s like wtf!
I didn't know I was capable of jumping through 3 rings of fire, someday I would have to try it /j
Im in the balkans and the ammount of bullshit people will spout in order to say a slur.
Ive heard things ranging from "we arent white americans, so it doesn't count"
to
"they arent here to hear it what is the problem"
im tired of this shit lol
It's wild here in poland because many men don't know a black person so they say it a whole lot, often out loud in public (along with other bigoted shit), while simultaneously a lot of them idolize black artists. One mental hula hoop some jump through is that polish people (white) are somehow black
I refuse no matter the circumstances to ever use it, I substitute brother or some other familial term for it in any music I listen to I grew up in the DEEP south Bible Belt I saw first hand the effects and lingering pain that word carries, it is a slur that means far more than colored it means slave
My dads grandmother used it liberally she was from the pre segregation era back when equal rights was still a far off dream, I can’t count the number of stories that truly showed how antebellum and post war south treated anyone non white cis straight and Christian, the horrors my ancestors enacted
My dad did a good job undoing a lot of brainwashing that still persists and grows like fucking kudzu, even today people act like the war just happened and you don’t have to go far out of any city to find proud boys and confederates, there’s a whole tale of how the daughters of the confederacy
Kept their version of events alive and erected all those civil war monuments to honor their “noble fathers and brothers” to “teach heritage and courage” they steep it in noble language and after you’ve swallowed the first lie they shove “the slaves were treated well” in there as a chaser;
My hometown has a statue honoring Nathan Bedford Forrest and the girl who helped them escape Sherman’s March, yes that one who started the KKK, it still stands downtown, I know all about the history of what people really mean when they use the hard R and open up old festering wounds with that slur
I’m not black but I can see the fear and pain in folks eyes, I can see children not given opportunities because of tragedies inflicted just because of skin color, I can see systemic issues where generations will suffer because no one cares enough about them to help or change anything,
For every victory and black person who graduates and manages to claw their way to success and begin building generational wealth denied them by numerous racist practices there’s hundreds who won’t get that far, the south is steeped in so much anguish I doubt the wounds will heal even in a century
I can’t do much, being queer and trans (non-binary) myself and having spent what family wealth we had on dealing with medical issues I don’t have much to give, but I can refuse to enable a slur, I can stand for my brothers and sisters, I will not allow such injustices to take place again around me
Fr its soo annoying like just don't say racist shit it's literally that easy:/
My one friend has a twin who keeps saying the N-word and he’s like stop saying that shit. I met him at dinner and my friend said “hey this is one of my black friends. They know and hear you say the N word and they don’t appreciate it and think its disgraceful.” His brother hasn’t said it since.
one of our brothers uses the n-word, dont see him a lot outside of family dinners at high occasion, but at both of the last 2 of these occasions he dropped it, both of my brothers are completely unaware of white privilege, and we stopped calling them out cuz all it does is get us screamed at
