Late in the evening on July 23, developers with games tagged as NSFW on Itch.io, a digital marketplace, began to notice something strange. Their work—whether it was a game about navigating disordered eating as a teenager, or about dick pics—no longer appeared in search results.

This isn't just affecting games. There is a thriving lgbtqia+ indie author scene on itch, many of them trans women. There have been significant impacts to many of my fellow authors who have tagged their books on itch as LGBT. This is disgraceful and instantly burned the vast amount of goodwill my community had towards itch as a platform - many people I know earned double from itch what they earn off Amazon!

There’s always women who hate women in every era, and collective shout is just another vile extension of the suffragettes who wanted to exclude Black women from voting and the white athletes who wanted to exclude them from sports. If Hester Prynne was a real person they would have hanged her, but instead they hanged a bunch of other real people and said it was because they were witches. There are people who commit themselves to never learning history, never growing up, never changing, never learning anything but to do the bidding of whatever elderly right wing guy they’ve affixed to like remora, and here we’ve found some more. They are weakness made manifest, using up their short lives on Earth to lash out.
