July 4: 🇨🇳 mouthpiece Victor Gao (高志凯), VP of CCP-linked “think tank” Center for China and Globalization, said China could annex Taiwan through a second “Xi’an Incident” (西安事變) — someone, another Chang Hsueh-liang (張學良), subduing Taiwan president Lai Ching-te (say, a dentist injecting an overdose of anesthetic, as Gao suggested) and then issuing a number of proclamations, with the most important one declaring that the situation in Taiwan is getting out of control and calling on China to send in its security forces to help restore public order in Taiwan. Chinese soldiers dressed in security uniforms would then enter Taiwan as security guards in a “safeguarding” operation instead of a military operation. This second Chang Hsueh-liang would also issue an order prohibiting Taiwan soldiers and policemen from firing at Chinese security personnel.
