CDP lawmaker Fujiawara Norimasa on the Upper House election:
"At a critical moment when the rise of the far-right was anticipated, they flooded the field with opposition candidates, only to end up dragging each other down.
What do those who lost a "precious seat" as a result think now?
What do the citizens who watched the whole episode-- how they effectively helped prolong the career of a far-right lawmaker tainted by slush funds and discrimination against Okinawa--think?
The lack of imagination is terrifying. As the largest opposition party, they must seriously reflect on this."
He appears to be referring to the case of Kyoto, where many opposition parties ran separate candidates, splitting the anti-LDP vote and possibly contributing to the re-election of LDP lawmaker Nishida Shoji.
