学生時代に英文が読める程度の外国語学習をしていた人なら問題なく一人で進めることができるでしょう。
基本的な事項はほぼ網羅されているのではないかと思います。
これを一通り読めば独文を見たときにだいたい何を書いているのか分かると思います。
文法事項だけで単語は身に付かないのですが、出てくる単語はだいたい意味が付記されているので学習に支障はないでしょう。

文法の説明は必要最小限で、可もなく不可もない感じ。接続法の説明は短すぎてほとんど理解できない。
テキストの文章は、ルッキズム、セクハラなどを無批判に取り上げていて現代の感覚に照らすとユーモアのセンスが古臭かったり、妙にメルヘンチックなおとぎ話だったりで、大学生以上の大人にとっては読解するのがアホらしくなるものが多い。もうかなり古い本ではあるが、もし改訂の機会があるなら、もう少し知的又は実用的な内容のテキストに改めてもらいたい。

ドイツ語は決まりが多く、英語とは似ているようで異なるルールが多い。そういったところが初心者のやる気を削ぐ大きな要因だ。この本はそういったストレスを最小限に、かつわかりやすく説明してくれる。所々に著者のユーモアも込められていて、楽しくわかりやすく基礎を学べる。基礎的なルール、小問題、長文読解がこの本でできる。

のんびりやって一ヶ月でとりあえず一周することができました。２週目で理解を深め、規則を覚えました。そこからドイツに語学留学に行きましたが、A1レベルからスタートしましたが早い授業スピードに全くつまづくことなく楽しく授業を受けることができました。（この本以外に単語集である程度の語彙力もつけていました）

　入門編ばかり買っていましたが、４冊目でこの本に出合いました。タイトルの通り「１から」ではなく、「ゼロから」教えてもらえます。なおかつ、１ページ１ページの内容が濃いことに途中で気が付きました。本文と並行して〔赤ペン〕で覚えるコツを示してもらえるので助かります。他にも勧めたい理由はありますが、何よりこの本のマジックは【サイズ】にもある　と思います。程よく大きい。ギリギリ片手で読める。情報量が多くてもシンプルに見えます。読んでいて楽しくなる名著です。在間先生ありがとうございます。（存じ上げませんけど。）
