I Am a Freelance Composer — Please Support My Music Now, Not My Past

2 min read9 hours ago

Yesterday, my X (Twitter) notifications just wouldn’t stop.
I’m truly grateful for all the love and reactions.

But to be honest, I couldn’t keep up with them all —
partly because I’m not good at English,
but also because I realized something important:

Many people have misunderstood my situation.

So let me say this again, loud and clear:

“I, Shogo Sakai, am a freelance composer.”

No matter how well the games I worked on in the past sell,
no matter how many times they are re-released,
I receive no financial gain from them.

That’s because the music I composed as a company employee is legally considered
“work for hire,” meaning the copyright belongs to the company.
I left those rights behind when I quit and became a freelancer.

When people say:
“I’ll support you, Sakai!”
I’m deeply encouraged and grateful.

But if you truly want to support me,
please consider buying the music I’m creating now.

Some of you have kindly added an “Additional fan contribution”
I can’t thank you enough. It genuinely moves me.

Yesterday, I released a new track:

New Release My Music

And yet, I know that only two people have purchased it so far.

If you’d like to support me,
please support what I’m creating today, not just what I’ve done before.

Thank you for reading — and for your support.
