tsmt, i know a lot of metalheads who hate on pantera for being too popular and normgroid but they were probably the first band to bring somewhat extreme metal into the mainstream

TSMT I 100% believe the band when in later interviews they said that the (((media))) didnt support them making trve metal.
I dont know how much of a controversial take this is with younger fans, but I really dont enjoy Panteras earlier songs. Their are a few songs from the beginning that I like, but mainly just listen to Driven and Trendkill. There are so many literal boomer fans that willfully dont understand the bands harsher work, its probably for the best that any real fan discussions are usually segregated by generational age.

Phil did a shit-ton of work getting Black metal more largely recognized in the US, yet you never seen any appreciation, let alone acknowledgment of that.
