Former Monroe First Selectman Arrested for DUI: Police
Police stopped a car being driven at a low rate of speed when it crossed the double yellow lines.
MONROE — Police arrested a former first selectman for DUI early Saturday morning, the Connecticut Post is reporting.
Officers stopped a car being driven at a low rate of speed on south Pepper Street around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, after it had crossed the double yellow line in the middle of the road several times, according to the report.
The driver of the car, Steven Vavrek , 61, served as first selectman in Monroe from 2009 to 2017. He failed a field sobriety test and was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and failure to drive in the proper lane.
