‘Can I claim squatter’s rights on an abandoned field I’ve been using?’

Q There’s a 0.4-acre piece of land in a cul-de-sac down the road from our house. We’ve been using it continuously for the last five years to feed animals and park trailers. It is fully secured by hedges, fencing and a gate, and we’ve been cutting the hedges.
The field had been abandoned and was overgrown and neglected when we first started using it. The owner was unknown and has not been seen since it was purchased about 10 years ago.
