So let’s walk through this “American workers can replace immigrants” fantasy Trump sold people.
A potato farmer in the video says if Americans worked as hard as a 52-year-old Hispanic man, they could make $70 to $100 a day. Sounds doable, right? Until you actually do the math:
$70/day × 5 days = $350/week
$100/day × 5 days = $500/week
That’s $1,400 to $2,000 a month for backbreaking field work. In the heat. Bending, lifting, hauling. And Trump thought Americans would be lining up for this?
You can’t pay rent, buy groceries, keep a car running, or raise a family on that kind of money. No health benefits. No job security. No upward mobility. That’s why people quit at lunch. That’s why they don’t come back the next day.
This was the plan. Kick out the labor force that feeds America and try to replace them with folks who can’t survive on starvation wages. It’s dumb policy.
