July 3: Italian police arrested 
man Xu Zewei, aka Zavier Xu and David Xu, who is wanted by the US authorities over industrial espionage which targeted projects including efforts to develop a COVID vaccine.
Xu was picked up on an arrest warrant issued on Nov 2, 2023 by the Southern District of Texas District Court as part of an FBI investigation, after he arrived at Milan's Malpensa airport from Shanghai.
Xu is a member of Hafnium — a state-linked hacker group also known as Silk Typhoon by Microsoft — which orchestrated a sweeping 2020 cyber campaign. Specifically, Hafnium tried to access a COVID vaccine being developed by the University of Texas in 2020.
Xu faces an extradition hearing in Milan on July 8.
The charges listed on the US arrest warrant are wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and unauthorized access to protected computers.
