Kay Keiko Henderson was a woman who found joy in dance which was fully experienced at Perry Mansfield in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. In addition to being a dancer & choreographer, Kay was a Stephens College dance department chair, an ESL teacher, an elementary special needs teacher, an actress, a perfectionist, a pineapple canner, a loud piano player, and fast walker. Born in Hilo, Hawaii on April 22, 1936, she was the first daughter of Masaichi and Shizue Uemura. Her body found peace and her spirit the freedom to dance again on October 15, 2024, in Columbia, Missouri. She is following her parents, brothers Edward and James & his wife Yuriko, as well as the father of her children Don Henderson. We hope their reunion brings peace sought in life. Kay is survived by her older brother Herbert, younger sister Lei Learmont, younger brother Roy Uemura, and the accompanying in-laws, nieces & nephews. Kay’s boundless energy and dream of perfection are remembered by her son Kyle & his wife Sonya, and Kay’s daughter Tanya & her husband Ted, along with their daughters who were married this year - Lauren & Calvin Nanneman and Tara & Hayden Black. We all wish Kay peace and joy.
A Celebration of Life will occur on April 19, 2025 at Stephens College. https://forms.gle/jWLAQ1bDdp78KJjP8.
