with hints from (Downtown) Doug Brown, we just discovered the trigger for the beige powermac G3's secret ROM image: go to the Memory control panel, set up a RAM disk, reboot to mount it, go Special → Erase Disk and name the volume secret ROM image — you'll get a file The Team at its root, type JPEG, creator ttxt. enjoy!
this appears to be a new discovery — Journal du Lapin [www.journaldulapin.com] extracted the image from the ROM but did not know the trigger mechanism
Doug had stumbled into some code that looked for RAM disks named secret ROM image but couldn't backtrack to where it was called — we loaded up Infinite Mac and set it up for a G3 running 8.1, tried a few things, and very quickly found it :)
