We made using the DLI Romanian Language Course - Basics material easier to use and more effective. You can now read the ebook (in the pane on the left), listen to the audio (pane to the right) and practice your pronunciation (use on the Pronunciation Tool tab on right) all at the same time.

The DLI Romanian Language Course - Basics material can be used both as a self-guided course or with the assistance of a qualified tutor.

NOTE: Some of these ebooks are quite large and may take a minute to fully load.

DLI Romanian Language Course - Basics - Image This Romanian Basic Course and covers the Elementary Phase. The technical terminology used is the one currently used at DLIWC and in the Instructor's Manual. The objectives pursued are to enable the student to a. discriminate all significant sounds (phonemes) as spoken by a native Romanian, b. produce the sound patterns of the native speaker as near to perfection as possible, c. comprehend the spoken and written language of this volume, d. engage in meaningful conversation and e. answer in writing to written questions within the vocabulary range and structure complex of this volume. The content of the text is in three parts: a. A brief phonology of the Romanian language, chiefly for the instructor.

Fifteen lessons, one for each day of the 4-week long Elementary Phase, not counting Fridays, which are set aside for review, and one day reserved for make-up at the instructors's discretion. Each lesson consists normally of the following parts:

I. INTRODUCTION OF NEW MATERIAL (Perception Drill on Phonological and/or Structural Features).
II. THE BASIC DIALOGUE (including a Translation, a Dialogue Adjunct and Cartoons).
III. PATTERN DRILLS (ranging from Repetition to Materials which advance the Student from Guided to Free Conversation).
IV. A NARRATIVE (with Questions).
V. EXPLANATORY GRAMMAR AND/OR CULTURAL NOTES (in English).
VI. ASSIGNMENTS FOR HOMEWORK.
VII. VOCABULARY.
