My teacher, may Allah preserve him, said something that really shook me once. He said when we hear the story of the prostitute who was forgiven because she gave water to a dog, we never ask the most important question: "Who sent the dog?"
Lowering your gaze is such a comprehensive protection. And it doesn't just mean lowering your gaze from what is inappropriate. Also lower your gaze from what doesn't concern you, from the faults and private matters of others.
This message is for the broken hearted: Allah will save you. This storm was only created so that you could bare witness that. He. Is. The. Only. Savior. That's it.
No one found God by pretending to be perfect. They didn't find Him with dry eyes from the shore. They found Him while lost at sea. They found Him on their knees. They found Him with their forehead to the ground. With wet eyes and shattered hearts.Humble. Broken. Helpless, sometimes.
"Behind every strong woman is a story that gave her no other choice."
--Nakeia Homer
You don't need to go to Allah whole. Just go to Him. Standing, sitting, or on your knees. Go to Him broken. Go to Him poor. Hand Him your shattered heart. He will return it to you whole.
The biggest mistake so many people make is that they don't marry a person for who they actually *are*.
They marry a person for what they imagine that person "will become". They marry "potential", not reality, and then they suffer greatly later.
I'll tell you something amazing that I've learned:
Our problems are handpicked for us.
Never think they are an oversight of God. Our obstacles are given to us to teach us to climb. That tidal wave you experienced last week--it was sent because you need to learn to swim.
If someone isn't responding, or responding in the way you want, don't assume it's because they don't care. Every single one of us is fighting our own, sometimes hidden, battles.
The deep realization that Allah knows everything and plans what is best for us, is profoundly healing. We should recognize that Allah knows, and we do not know. (Quran 2: 216)
This is medicine for the heart.
Beware.Shaytan comes at us in different ways depending on our state. When we are at a spiritual high,he comes at us through arrogance and self-righteousness. He tries to make us pleased with our deeds,to make us believe we are perfect, superior, that it is others who need to change
You know what's even worse than sin?
The *normalization* of sin.
Be careful. That's the *actual* agenda.
Hijab is not for angels. Its for flawed, beautiful humans, saying everyday that they are trying. And theres so much beauty in that struggle.God sees it.Never belittle any act of love&worship. It could be this act of obedience that God accepts& bc of it God may forgive ur other flaws
Tawakul is trusting in Allah when you *can't* see the answer and it looks like there's no way out.
We tend to judge people with family problems, but forget that even Prophets were tested with domestic issues. Prophets did not have perfect families. Nuh had problems with his son, Ibraheem with his father, Lut with his wife and Yaqoob with his children.
We are not promised a pain free life. We are not promised a journey without waves. We are promised that if we hold onto the rope of Allah, and stay within the lifeboat of His remembrance, nearness and mercy, the waves will come.
But they will, never ever drown us.
As much as you can, keep dunya in your hand--not in your heart. That means when someone insults you, keep it out of your heart so it doesn't make you bitter or defensive. When someone praises you, also keep it out of your heart, so it doesn't make you arrogant and self-deluded.
Be careful. Shaytan will keep reminding you of what you've lost so you can't enjoy what you still have.
Look into the Quran and you will find your own story there. That is the Divine miracle.

Allah sent the dog because He *wanted* to forgive her. So He sent an obstacle,a challenge,a nuisance. Someone who needed her help. So it would become a door for her to be forgiven through service.Thru compassion to the creation.Thru a sacrifice.Thru the need for patience.
Nothing beautiful is created without struggle.
You want your heart to be beautiful, but you forget that diamonds are created by pressure, and pure gold is made through heat.
The purpose of the test is not to see what you can do on your own.
The purpose of the test is to see how much you can trust the One who never leaves you on your own.
Allah doesn't need you to pretend to be strong. He wants you to admit to be weak.
And He will make you strong.
Perhaps Allah has temporarily taken away access to the masjid, so we can remember that Allah is not confined to a place or time. He is always near. He is closer than our jugular vein. We can call on Him from anywhere, at any time.
Moments will come & go.Your pain will rise and fall.Even your faith will see its' lows. But let the coming and the going, the rising and falling, the winning and losing see you in beauty, even as you are surrounded by the seasons of life and love. And even the winters of your heart
Allah saw good in you before you could see good in yourself. He guided you when you were lost, and saved you when no one else could.
Not only from the storm.
A thousand times, He saved you from yourself. Your duaa was not your reaching out to Him.
It was His reaching out to you.
The purpose of life is not the pursuit of happiness.
It the pursuit of Truth (Al-Haqq).
Happiness is a by-product of that journey.
Do you know why we sometimes don't get what we want? Because Allah loves us more than we love ourselves. We choose. But He chooses better.
When it feels too heavy,it means u need to hand it over to God.When things all feel scattered,it means u need 2 refocus on ur only true center:God.We get overwhelmed&crushed by pressure, not to destroy us.Only to remind us not to rely on ourselves.Only to remind us to hand it over
Allah will choose better for you than you choose for yourself. Every. Single. Time.
We will all sail through different weather in this life. That's a certainty. But the one who has Allah will never ever drown.
This is what life taught me:
You must find your own way to Allah.
No one can do it for you.
But if you do, you will be safe in all life's storms.
"No amount of guilt can change the past,no amount of worrying can change the future.Go easy on urself, for the outcome of all affairs is determined by Allah's decree. If something is meant to go elsewhere,it'll never come ur way.If it is urs by destiny, from u it can never flee"-OIK
"On disappointment: Don't immediately brush it off. Feel it first, and then it will leave you quicker. Here's the thing about broken glass: It needs to be acknowledged and swept up so you don't step on it later."
--Victoria Erickson
Don't misunderstand.
Your storms weren't sent to destory you.
Just to keep you near His door.
Hijab isnt for angels. Its for flawed, beautiful humans, who r saying everyday that theyre trying. And theres so much beauty in that struggle.God sees it.Never belittle any act of love&worship. It could be this act of obedience that God accepts&bc of it,could forgive ur other flaws
Remember: Allah loves you more than you can imagine. He saw good in you, even when you couldn't see good in yourself.
They tell you to "follow your heart".
But they forget a crucial part.
The unpurified heart is nafs (lower self).
Purify your heart. And then follow it.
"God doesn't give you the people you want, He gives you the people you need. To help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you, and to make you into the person you were meant to be."
--Anonymous
The relationship with the Quran should be one of transformation, not just recitation.
One of the most powerful parts of hardship is that it makes your blessings show up so brightly. You see the beauty around you so much clearer:The spouse, the family, the friends that support you. The duaas, the kindness--even the tiniest gestures--will shine more in the dark times
Try not to take everything to heart; it will exhaust you, and waste your energy.
Stay focused. Be prepared for life's challenges, but don't wait for them. Rest when you can--emotionally and psychologically.
Everything, except God, has a beginning and an end. Your pain has a beginning. And it will have an end.
Hijab isn't a crown that shows the world you're a perfect Muslim. It's a gesture of love, that shows Allah you're trying.
I have realized more and more that we are given problems only so that we turn to our Creator to solve them.
Don't miss the point.

So the question is: what is *your* thirsty dog, sent on your path, as a door for you to be forgiven.
We need to lower our gaze from what is inappropriate.
But we also need to lower our gaze from what is none of our business.
Sometimes gifts are wrapped in deprivation and hardship. And sometimes harm is wrapped in glitter and pleasure.
Many people believe that hardening the heart will guard you from pain.
But it only guards you from joy.
Keep the heart soft and then strengthen the fortress surrounding it, with the remembrance of God.
