We have just got an update from Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's emergency service: Four people have been confirmed dead at the site of a strike in central Israel.

Earlier, we reported three deaths in the area.

The four killed were a woman in her 60s, a woman in her 80s, a boy around 10 years old and a young girl.

Meanwhile, the MDA says it is treating 99 injured people - four of whom in serious condition.

Meanwhile, Israel has also launched strikes on Iran - though we have yet to get the casualty figures there. Iran has reportedly imposed widespread internet restrictions in the wake of the Israeli attacks.

  3. Why has Israel targeted Isfahan?published at 04:07 British Summer Time
    published at 12:07

Over the last few hours we've been getting news about Iranian strikes against Israel. Just before that, the attack was in the opposite direction - with Israeli strikes deep inside Iran.

And the main target was Isfahan.

Iran's conversion plant in Isfahan, in central Iran, is one part of the country's enormous nuclear infrastructure, alongside mines and plants spread across other cities.

Also nearby is significant Iranian military infrastructure, including a large air base and a major missile production complex.

In April 2024, Israel damaged an air-defence system in Isfahan at an airfield.

Iran says the Isfahan facilities are used for purely peaceful purposes - but Israel and Western countries have long suspected Tehran of secretly using it to develop nuclear weapons.

This week's G7 summit in Canada will be dominated by war - only not one of those that the world leaders had expected.

High on the agenda had been Russia's war against Ukraine and Donald Trump's tariff war against America's trading partners.

Instead, the three-day gathering in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta will inevitably be focused on war in the Middle East.

The BBC's Diplomatic Correspondent James Landale has this report from Alberta.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer's mantra is clear.

“The constant message is de-escalate,” he told us. He is neither ruling in nor out the prospect of British jets helping Israel - as happened in both April and October last year.

Iran has warned the UK, France and the US that were they to support Israel, their ships and bases in the region would be regarded as legitimate targets.

Starmer met the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney here last night for talks on security and trade. Both will head later to the Canadian province of Alberta for the G7 Summit. The Middle East is uppermost on the agenda.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Donald Trump are among those gathering there for three days of talks.

“Stuck” – that’s how most people I’ve spoken to describe life right now in Iran.

“I had to drive far from home to find a petrol station, because there were heavy queues in front of each,” one Tehran resident tells me today.

Some people in the city are even moving out, “away from where any official lives”.

Someone who remembers the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s says: “Back then, sirens warned everyone to go somewhere safe or turn off house lights. It seems like they [the officials] don’t care about our lives now.”

But younger people, born after the war, don’t know what it was like.

The internet is becoming even more unstable than yesterday, so it’s very hard to keep in touch with people I know inside the country.

Many of us living outside the country are sending messages to loved ones, hoping for a reply.

Videos published by Iranians on social media and authenticated by BBC Verify show a huge fire at an oil depot northwest of the capital Tehran.

One video, confirmed by BBC Verify, shows two residents watching a huge fire at the Shahran oil depot, filmed from Simon Bolivar Street in northwest Tehran.

Another clip, also filmed from Simon Bolivar Street, shows an oil tanker burning, with a man filming confirm the time and location of the video.

A report from the Mehr news agency also filmed a report from the site, confirming that it appeared to have been targeted.

Iran’s oil ministry has said that the situation is “under control”, but Iranian media have asked people to “stay away” from the depot.

Meanwhile, one video shared online and verified by the BBC shows a fire burning near the Haifa oil refinery following tonight’s salvo of missiles fired from Iran.

Although the clip is filmed from distance, we can spot the oil refinery by matching known landmarks surrounding it and finding the precise location from which it was filmed.

BBC Verify is continuing to examine more videos of the aftermath of tonight’s attacks by both countries.
