Consulate General in New York and various Chinese hometown associations — united front groups — since 2019 (based on publicly available information). Given Linda Sun’s ties with the CCP, it’s hard to believe that she would allow someone not aligned with the CCP to get involved in such activities. And it’s even harder to imagine that the CCP wouldn’t tap Fan for “help” given her family background.
Fan went back to China — Sichuan specifically — and, together with her father Fan Dongsheng (范东升) and / or her mother Yang Xiaoqi (杨晓齐), attended a couple of events related to her late grandfather Fan Changjiang (范长江) in 2019 and 2017 (lower right pics).
