This neat little book of pastiches contained five stories. They were~ 1. The Adventure of the Mendicant's Face 2. The Adventure of the Mocking Huntsman 3. The Adventure of the Extraordinary Lodger 4. The Adventure of the Forgetful Assassin 5. The Adventure of the Birlstone Legacy Witty, fast-paced and compact— these tales were refreshingly readable. The mysteries were not very dense were complex. But the presentations were lively enough. Recommended.
I was a little worrried when I started these pastiches that the first would be a simple copy of the Red Headed League, but I was wrong. I nice set of stories with cleever plots and written in a good Watsonian style, though would Dr W have said less when he meant fewer? A absolute bargain on kindle and i strongly recommend it.
Tried this on a whim and must say I am very pleased. The author does a very nice job of capturing the spirit of the original stories. My only qualm is the constant mention of cases that were never written by Doyle. I'm not sure if the author has written them, or plans to but it was distracting.
