New to Linux so I am not fully sure what to troubleshoot; disk not being read

I tried various applications such as VLC and cdparanoia, but the disk is not being read
I tried mounting but it did not work and when I run lbslk it detects nothing and only says sr0 is 1024mb with disk both inserted and not
I made sure that the reader is connected to /dev/sr0, and it detects the physical reader itself, just not the disk nor its contents

Anyone?

A few questions beforehand to sort it out, when you say "tried mounting but it did not work", what exactly do you mean? Do you have some error messages, or it tries to load the disk indefinitely, or it does nothing at all whatsoever?

Also, are you by any chance talking about an audio CD, or any random CD/DVD with files written onto it? Asking because I also had a headache with audio CDs, apparently they are kind of special and the way Linux handles them differs from Windows and admittedly not that convenient. Disks with files should be just fine though.

And what distro are you running? Will help to narrow down the options in case you are missing some packages.

Edit: just to clarify, audio CD is like something you bough from a music store, where the music is written to the disk directly (similar to vinyl tracks or whatever), not a disk with .mp3 or .flac written to it. The difference is that "real" audio CDs do not have "files" for each track and thus have no filesystem to mount and browse. But first lets figure out why (and how) it's not read on your system.
