  • Giving money to spies
  • It's like leaving dried bonito flakes with a cat.
  • What are they trying to do, giving 1,000 million yen to students from an anti-Japanese country? It's like feeding termites and letting them eat away at your house. Eventually, the foundations of Japan will be eaten away and it will collapse. They should quickly review the system and drive the Chinese out.
  • "40 International Students Plan" It is important to encourage international students to find employment in Japan and to support them in contributing to Japanese society after graduation. "New Japanese Plan" It is a plan to accept foreigners so that Japan can become a better society. There will be no decrease in the number of foreigners in Japan.
  • I feel so sorry for the college students who are borrowing scholarships.

  • It wasn't out of kindness...
  • This is terrible! Old media won't broadcast this...
  • I can't believe this is all with our taxes?
  • Does this mean you're giving away 1000 million?
  • When aiding foreign countries and foreigners, they are generous without worrying about "financial resources" for some reason, but when it comes to aiding Japanese people in Japan, they do nothing, citing "financial resources" as an excuse.
  • What! Seriously? Where do they get that kind of money? They always say they don't have the financial resources, but they should give us 1000 million yen in support. We don't have to pay it back.
  • The government is so stupid that it's not worth discussing. I don't know what country's government it is. I want Prime Minister Ishiba to trade with President Trump. If anything, I'd be happy to trade multiple people, including Ishiba, Iwaya, and all the other cabinet members, for Trump alone.
  • What is this?... He's nothing but a traitor.
  • Hey! Ishiba! What are you saying! If it was your own money you wouldn't pay a single yen! Japanese students have student loans... but you're going to give 1 million yen to a Chinese person? This administration is already a mess! Hey! Are you just letting the LDP and other party lawmakers do this? Get rid of this administration already!

1000 million yen support for Chinese international students? A strong sense of discomfort over the disparity with Japanese students

It is only natural that many Japanese are expressing shock and anger about the "Chinese international students receiving 1000 million yen each (with no obligation to repay)" that has been reported in the media and on social media. I couldn't believe my ears when I first saw it. It is necessary to examine the facts, but if this kind of support is actually being given, it is something that we, as Japanese students and taxpayers, cannot overlook.

Currently, many Japanese students are burdened with student loan debts, which they must continue to repay for many years after graduating from university. On the other hand, Chinese students are given a large amount of free support, so the disparity is simply unreasonable. It feels as if the position of Japanese students who are struggling to make ends meet while studying and struggling to afford tuition and living expenses is being neglected.

Aren't we harming national interests in the name of aid?

The problem isn't just the amount of money. If this case is true, it raises questions about the fact that support is biased toward international students from certain countries. The government has a responsibility to clearly explain to the public why only Chinese students are being given special treatment. China is a partner country that requires close attention from the perspective of Japan's national security and economic competition. If we are accepting international students from such a country, and with such a huge amount of free support, isn't this an extremely vulnerable and reckless policy?

Taxes should be used for the people. If the educational support, childcare support, and welfare improvements that Japanese people need are put on the back burner while only foreigners are given preferential treatment, it is only natural that the people will lose their trust. If such policies continue, fundamental doubts may arise as to "who is this country for?"

Media and government must be held accountable

For some reason, the major media seem to be keeping a watchful eye on this issue. Although it is clearly of great public interest and a serious issue in terms of the use of tax money, it has not been given much coverage on television or in newspapers. By hiding information, the public's distrust will only increase. I strongly hope that the media will fulfill their responsibilities as a news organization.

Government officials must also immediately make the design and operation of the support system more transparent and address the public's concerns and questions head-on. Above all, a policy that disburses huge sums of money to students from overseas while allowing domestic students to give up on continuing their education is completely upside down. Now is the time to reconsider who we are really trying to protect.
