Hi, I’m the creator of such illustrious mods as Ultra Instinct on Perfect Parry, Canon Event Sound on Perfect Parry and the unreleased Prowler Sound On Perfect Parry. Here are my notes on how to do it so I don’t have to remember. A lot of this comes from a couple of linkrotted tutorials (archive link). Anyway,
requirements
- getting all the ingredients together
- ringing bloom
- have to install netcore 3.1.2 desktop runtime for this
- wwise-unpacker
- wwiseutil-gui
- ffmpeg/audacity (2.4.2)
- audiokinetic wwise
- you have to make an account on the site to get access to the download
- the launcher will show you options, install 2021.
unpacking
- unpack the game
- uninstall mods first!!!
- RETool or MHRUnpack
- here’s a more extensive guide on unpacking https://web.archive.org/web/20240316160336/http://modderbase.com/showthread.php?tid=2902
finding the sound you want
- getting the bank files
- file names are obtuse but there are parts we understand - identifying the sound you want
- this is optional, cuz you might already know where it is
- record street fighter sounds in audacity
- dropdown, windows wasapi, headphones/speakers
- get the sounds out of the bank files
- put the soundbank(s) in wwiseunpacker and transform it to mp3 or ogg if you want
- listen to all the sounds in the bank and make a note of which one kinda sound like the one you want to replace
- take those files and put them in audacity and compare the wavelength visually
- listen to them one after the other
- listen to them one on one ear and the other in the other ear
replacing
- get a wav of the audio you want to replace the ingame sound with
- open wwise from wwise launcher
- create a new project
- change project settings to vorbis high
- import audio
- convert all audio
- file manager → .cache → windows → sound → here’s the we
- replacing the file
- let’s use wwiseutil-gui
- name the wem the same as the name of the wem in the soundbank
- right click → replace
- save as BNK NOT THE DEFAULT
- you can also use ringing bloom for this
packaging the mod
- create a mod folder
- natives/stm/products/sound/wwise
- put the mod folder in fluffy mod manager
- rename the new bnk to the original name - test it to see if it works
- if it works, zip it up and upload it to nexus mods
troubleshooting
- if it doesn’t work, here’s few troubleshooting tips
- 1. are you 100% sure the sound you replaced was the one you wanted to replace?
- lots of sounds effects are hard to tell apart without the context of the game
- are you 100% sure you renamed the bnk correctly?
- i spent a lot of time “debugging” having put my perfect parry mod in the dmg_human soundbank instead of the dmg_cmn soundbank
- are you 100% you replaced the right track?
- it’s easy to get messed up by 1 plus or minus in the other direction
- some programs start counting at 0 and some programs start counting at 1 and you need to remember where you got a certain number from
- double check that you got the right wwise version (2021) and the right project settings.
- uninstall every mod, verify game integrity on steam, install back just your mod and see if it works that way
- try a different workflow and use alternate tools
