Fun and short pixelated 2D platformer.

The movement is great, and I like the fact you can change your colour palette.
It's also not awfully hard. Some levels are challenging, but it's possible to master them with practice.

Once you reach the end, you can go all the way back to the beginning as an extra challenge.
You'll be doing the same levels backwards; all of them are designed to be possible to beat in both directions.
It's just a little confusing that once you reach the end or the beginning (again), you get no credits and the game doesn't end. You just stay there... destined to go back and forth forever...

The controls are way too janks for precision movements and thus I couldn't finish the very last screen in reasonable time.

Other than that, it was fun, I really enjoyed it, very nice aesthetics and a good tribute to Super Meat Boy, Celeste and other platformers.

I'm very impressed with this project! This was a serviceable platformer that takes inspiration from Celeste and likely VVVVVV. It's a simple and intuitive, and easy to complete. However, what I'm most interested in is what this dev continues to make. Each of the introduced mechanics in this game, such as double jump and air dash are in need of some tuning. The gravity needs a little work. Your character reaches terminal velocity almost instantly, but upward momentum is really variable. I'd love to see some variability in the falling speed. Implementing a down arrow to increase momentum and creating a loftier feel on the peak of jumps for your character will go a long way! KEEP THIS UP!!!!

Very fun game, nice art style, the only problem that I have with it is that the jump pads are quite loud compared to everything else. Would play again!

Short sweet precise platforming, with the additional challenge of letting you redo the game backwards bringing up new unforseen challenges. The controls and overall game feel is very good. Some passages in the backwards run are a bit frustrating though and not there's not much to do apart from going from one end of the game to the other.

Decently difficult platforming game. difficulty of each room increases as you progress. Worth a play through.

This feels very reminiscent of VVVVVV. It's a great platformer with simple controls yet challenging level design. I love the true-to-form 8 bit style of the game, from the graphics to the music. The settings page itself is super interesting, as it is using purely icons. I'm sure it makes localization super easy ;)

Overall, a great game to spend 45 minutes in. You won't be disappointed. I highly recommend a controller with a good DPad.

Control scheme was a bit wonky - shift for dash and space for jump would have felt better if I could use arrow keys to move - but a fun game nonetheless that didn't overstay its welcome.

it's fun and short and free but the movement leaves something to be desired. overall, the movement concepts are good and after about 20-30 minutes i felt pretty comfortable with them, but i consistently had some trouble predicting what my vertical speed would be at any given point in time.
the main issue stems from, as another review said, the character "falling like a rock" whenever they are not moving up—that is, they immediately (or at least very quickly) reach terminal velocity. this on its own isn't the worst thing in the world, but when combined with the finicky physics involving wall sliding (primarily not being able to tell at what exact position i'll be latching onto the wall) it makes for a system that feels overly precise in unintended ways.
additionally, something more subjective is that i'm not a fan of how, when jumping, you move at a constant velocity upwards, à la the robot from geometry dash. i prefer some acceleration when jumping, but that might just be because that's what i'm used to.
overall fun game, and i'd be interested in seeing more from the developer in the future

Fun little platformer, the only thing that took some getting used to is how fast you start falling. Beating it backwards had some tough screens!

When I first found out a celeste inspired platformer named Fell was coming out, I knew I had to get in on it.

As a former top level celeste speedrunner, I do like the inspiration that this game takes from it, but does enough with the movement and the art style to firmly define itself as it's own thing. It is a very short game, and anyone who is experienced with platformers will be able to finish it front to back in under a half hour, but it is also free! So the length doesn't feel like a deterrent at all. It is really just a cute and fun game that I would recommend!

I do have some feedback on the game that the developer can hopefully use going forward!

When it comes to platformers, feel is everything. There were a few distinct cases where I felt that the "feel" aspect of the game could be improved by having slightly different physics.

- The first one is the feeling of falling, in a game like celeste (not to say every game needs to feel like celeste), your character takes time after jumping, dashing, etc. to accelerate into terminal velocity. This gives the player that split second to breath after taking an action so they aren't forced into doing a super input intensive sequence or a sequence where predictive inputs are required. In Fell, it often felt like the character was dropping like a rock between actions and gave even someone like me, who is extremely used to high input platforming, a bit of trouble to figure out and I didn't love how it felt in the end.

- The overall level design of the game is very fun! I can only think of two jumps that don't feel good/consistent to me so far, and one of them is the last jump coming back out of the final room. However, I did notice a pattern throughout the game where the main feature of the room was oftentimes preceeded by, or bookended by, a couple of spikes on a cycle. I don't think they have no place in the game, but having to take my time to walk through the prologue to a room each time I died in it gave the feeling of padding, rather than creative gameplay. As a remedy to this, I suggest making longer feature sequences instead of padding the start and end of rooms with cycles.

I will definitely be giving the game a fair go for speedrunning and I am excited to get started on that! Definitely recommend Fell if you are a fan of indie platformers

it's Celeste+Tiny Square Big Tower, with slightly less responsive controls and as short as this review,
pretty neat :godo:

Sure, neat little platformer, and about the right... length....

...I'm sorry, I'm writing this review, and I just noticed that the description says to beat the game backwards after you reach the end, and... I guess I'm not done with this! Anyway, yeah, good game.

One criticism; the default keyboard controls really overload the left hand. I can't actually remember if they're remappable but, either way, may be worth moving the default controls to split left/right movement and jump/dash so that they're split between hands.

Not a perfect game but I quite enjoyed it. I would recommend it only to those who enjoy 2D platformers and want a short challenge.

My main complaints:

- Movement is lackluster, jumps feel unresponsive sometimes. In general, the controls aren't that great.

- The 'last screen' was much, much more difficult than any other. IMO, it was too big of a difficulty spike out of nowhere.
