I remember the very first time I began to worry about the tightness of my vagina. I was dating this guy who was younger than me and was always seeking the approval of everyone around him. He liked to crack jokes at anyone’s expense, trying to be the funniest one in the room. It all stemmed from being young and insecure, so I tried to laugh and smile, even when the jokes he made were poking fun at me.
One night, we were all hanging out while he and a few of his friends worked on his cousin’s race car. We were all drinking and having fun, country music playing on the radio as they tried to get the car in good enough shape to race the next day.
The conversation turned raunchy, as it often did on these nights. It was mostly all in good fun until someone brought up our sex life. My then-boyfriend’s cousin asked if it was better with an older woman. I waited to see what his reply would be, knowing he didn’t exactly have a long history of women to compare me to.
“Nah, it’s kind of like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.”
