@silverforestry It’s not rape. Bonobo’s are almost always consenting in their sex. They actually have one of, if not the, lowest rape rate among primates. And that includes humans. Just because someone or something has a high libido doesn’t make them a rapist. And it wasn’t a justification for homosexuality, it was a justification for sex positivity.

@silverforestry i think the point is being missed here? The point being sex and sexuality is just as complicated in Humans as it is in other species of animal. Like, humans aren’t the exception for complicated sexuality and sex dynamics. Biology is almost always way more of a gradient than people think. Homophobia is bad because Humans are complicated and simplification for the sake of bigotry is bad!

@silverforestry Ah, so you admit you don’t care about accuracy, just the point you want to make. Look, I agree that rape is one of the worst things you can do, but to say that because bonobos are sexually positive and open means that they’re rapists is horrifying. That’s like saying that a woman who wears short shorts is a rapist. Being open about your sexuality is not rape. I’m saying this as a sex repulsed asexual, we as a society need to stop shaming people for sex and trying to hide it.

@silverforestry Animals don’t reproduce as soon as they’re fertile. The reason it seems like they do is because they often have a lifespan much shorter than ours. If you live for four years and are fertile at one, you can’t exactly wait till you’re eighteen. Also, hate to be a pedant, but brain size has nothing to do with intelligence, otherwise blue whales would have invented space travel. It’s about access to education.

@silverforestry I’m literally going to college for animal behavior and neuroscience. I know what the fuck I’m talking about. The reason humans are so different is because of fire giving us cooked food which increases neuro-efficiency, and because we’ve been eating that for over 10000 years while also developing an education system. And what red herring fallacy? The only red herring I see is you randomly bringing up unmentioned rape and using it to say this person is homophobic.

@vicurate Social bonds go beyond procreation. We also see sex going beyond procreation. We see this in pachyderms, birds, apes, bats, and yes, humans. If you truly believe a relationship is built solely on procreating, you’ve never been in a good one.
