The Universal Holmes

Rate this book
Gary Lovisi introduces these five Sherlockian pastiches by a man who knows Holmes from A to Izzard. There are shades of Lovecraft and even Jack Kerouac in the stories, and as a final dessert, Chef Lupoff shows you the best way to cook the Giant Rat of Sumatra. Read the introduction below for a deeper insight into what drives a man to write like Conan Doyle.

This book collects Lupoff's Sherlock Holmes stories, most of which I have actually read in other collections. Still, nice enough to have them all in one place. Funnily enough, the one I enjoyed the most was the one for which I had the least expectations, namely The Adventure of the Boulevard Assassin, written in the style of Jack Kerouac. You should think that that would be quite a mismatch, but it works surprisingly well.

Also contains a recipe for Giant Rat of Sumatra stew. I think I'll pass on that one...
