- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2016It's hard to rate a collection of 21 short stories. I gave it 4 stars mainly because this collection has "Pacifist" - a story that is unfortunately still very relevant today and is worth 5 stars all by itself. Many of the other stories are fun as well, such as "The Adventure of the Extraterrestrial", presenting an aged Sherlock Holmes given a very unusual case.
Mack Reynolds was interested in people, societies, and economic systems - not so much gadgetry and science. That helps his stories' longevity.
You need to make some allowances for the era - a few of the stories exhibit rather old-fashioned attitudes (e.g. "Good Indian"). But still, as that rarest of birds, a genuinely left-wing SF writer of the 40s and 50s, Mack Reynolds is fascinating to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2020an excellent short story collection of science fiction from back when it first started.
Interesting stories with good characters and nicely twisted endings.
I highly recommend this book.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2016Back to what I called the SF of Ideas. Most of his work has good writing, but very good ideas. The point of this type of SF is to explore concepts and their potential ramifications. Worth a look.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2018The longer pieces were classic, not so much the shorter ones. These works showed their age, but were worth the price

From the golden age of science fiction, if you like that type you'll love this. Some stories now seem a bit naïve with what's known now but they are still enjoyable
