Houston places low for interest in World Series TV

Series ratings are up slightly

By , Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle

Fox Sports had fewer games but better ratings for the 2007 World Series, posting a 10.6 average Nielsen rating with an average audience of 17.1 million viewers.

But it was still the second-lowest World Series average rating in history. Last year's five-game Cardinals-Tigers Series had a 10.1 rating with an average audience of 15.8 million viewers. The White Sox sweep of the Astros averaged an 11.1 rating in 2005.

Boston, not surprisingly, had the highest rating for the Red Sox's Game 4 victory with a 55.3 rating and 73 share. From 11 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., which included the bottom of the ninth inning, 87 percent of TVs in Boston in use at the time were tuned to the World Series.

Houston was among the lowest-rated markets for the Series. Game 4 averaged an 8.4 Nielsen rating on KRIV (Channel 26), which ranked 54th among the 56 major markets. Only Knoxville, Tenn., (7.6) and Pittsburgh (7.2) ranked lower.
